A recently resurfaced video on social media showed a mysterious sea creature transforming into various shapes at a depth of 3,753 feet in the Indian Ocean.

An account called CaptainJRD posted the video on YouTube, and wrote: "The video has not been altered and was taken off the East coast of Africa. ... Near the end of the footage you can see the creature getting caught up in the output from the ROV thrusters."

The video, which was captured using an ROV (remotely operated vehicle), begins with the unidentified creature floating around before shrinking into a ball-like shape and then transforming into what looks like a shuttlecock. The clip was first posted online in 2013, but has recently resurfaced, according to LadBible.

Many users commented the creature resembles a jellyfish.

"Majestically drifts, majestically shape shifts, majestically glows, majestically does a couple of cute spins and gets brutally ripped apart and tossed in the void. Rip glow globe," one user wrote.

Another viewer added: "They just discovered a deep sea alien like life form and a minute later it gets game ended by a propeller."

Some viewers also tried to identify the creature: "That's a Ctenophore - you can tell by the rainbow light show it has (it's light reflecting of its cilia). Looks like it gets mulched by wash from the propeller at the end though."

However, the identity of the creature remains unknown.

Several deep sea creatures have been spotted in the past under the ocean or washing up on the shores. However, experts have not always been able to identify them.

Last month, a free diver in Australia was shocked to see a penis-shaped sea creature on the seabed. Josie Jones, 48, was with her underwater camera when she encountered the creature. According to Jones, it had an uncanny resemblance to the male genitalia. Social media users were amused to see the images of the creature caught on camera while it was on the seabed off Rye Front Beach, Victoria. "I wonder if anyone has ever called one of these in as a found body part?" one person joked. "Even nature gets the urge," another said. A third posted: "Sea cucumbers, apparently some people eat them...."
