KEY POINTS

  • BTS recently smashed another record for garnering most comments on YouTube
  • The K-pop band attracted 5.07 million individual comments just a week ago
  • BTS' hit single "DNA" attracted the comments and bolstered the group's popularity

BTS recently made history on YouTube with their hit single “DNA.”

The K-pop male group’s video became the most commented-on MV, surpassing Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” another Korean favorite. The video clip acquired an outstanding 5.07 million individual comments on Youtube just a week ago, Forbes reported.

The sudden wealth of comments bolstered the K-pop group’s popularity, gaining them a recognition to add to their developing success stories. The video’s comments are currently on its way to shoot up into a billion more, with its dedicated fans (a.k.a. ARMY) on the loose at contributing to this staggering record.

In the event that the view and comment mark will indeed procure billions, BTS will be the first K-pop band to reach the coveted milestone, trailing behind its other acclaimed internet sensations, Psy and K-pop girl group Blackpink.

Although their hit release “DNA” attracted the most comments, it is still far from being YouTube’s most popular choice, Forbes claimed. While the video has racked up most opinions from viewers, it does not necessarily equate to becoming the most-watched upload. There are in fact, almost 200 videos on YouTube that have been viewed at least a billion times as well as 10 uploads that magnetized three times as many clicks.

An astounding record such as this goes to show that avid fans of the K-pop group are not just active with their updates on listening and viewing. They actually focus more on generating group discussions about that one song they share interest in, regardless of what social media platform they use. Whatever the cause though, BTS still made headlines for such a circumstance.

Also known as Bangtan Boys, BTS is a seven-membered South Korean boy band that debuted back in 2013. Their expertise dwelled mostly on hip hop ensembles, but their style has now evolved into a variety of musical genres.

BTS’ songs often evoke messages of awareness and raise certain issues such as mental health, coming-of-age troubles, loss, and the journey towards loving and self-discovery. Psychological concepts also inspire their work, which they also reference when creating a storyline with an alternative universe.

“Wings” became the K-pop group’s first album to sell a million copies in South Korea. By 2017, BTS spiraled into the international market attracting millions of listeners that grew their crowd and fans extensively.

BTS’ eventual rise to stardom and prominence has been so cosmic over the last few years, Vox reported. The band’s newest album “Map of the Soul: 7,” is a love letter for the group’s ever-growing international fandom. The songs are written by each of the bands seven members.
