A California man was arrested after he allegedly beat his wife to death and abandoned his 12-year-daughter at a gas station, miles away from his home.

The incident came to light after the girl walked up to a convenience store at the gas station and asked for help, KABC-TV reported.

Jesus Jaimes-Rosas, 37, was booked into the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto without bail on suspicion of murder Tuesday, according to the outlet.

A California Highway Patrol official and deputies from the Barstow Sheriff's Department responded to the Shell gas station on Cima Road in Nipton after the convenience store staffers informed the authorities.

A police statement said, "When deputies arrived, the child indicated her father beat her mother and left her on the side of the road."

Investigators said in the statement Jaimes-Rosas dropped the child off at a gas station before fleeing the scene.

The deputies then launched a manhunt for Jaimes-Rosas, and found his abandoned vehicle on Powerline and Kingston roads in Mountain Pass at around 1:23 a.m. local time on Sunday. A law enforcement K-9 unit deployed to the area found the man, who had sustained a self-inflicted injury, Yahoo News reported.

The corpse of his wife, identified as Sonia Flores, 31, was also found at around 11:43 a.m. She was pronounced dead on the spot.

The Specialized Investigations Division Homicide Detail took over the investigation.

Earlier this month, a 45-year-old New York man fatally shot his wife in front of her children, while he was out on a bail for a previous assault on the victim. Adam Bennefield crashed into his wife's vehicle when she was taking her children, aged between 6 months to 9 years old to school, fired a shotgun at her, and fled. Footage captured from the incident showed Bennefield tackling his wife, pinning her down and punching her repeatedly. The victim was reportedly fearful for her life, due to which she was wearing a bulletproof jacket on the day of the incident. Bennefield was facing multiple charges including third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree menacing, and second-degree unlawful imprisonment over an attack on his wife in September.
