While sales of more recent “Call of Duty” haven’t lived up to the record-breaking entries from the early 2010s, the series hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down. And 2019 looks no different, with Activision and Infinity Ward unveiling “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” on Thursday.

With the reveal, the first details of the series' newest entry have been revealed.

Shown upfront in the debut trailer is that this new entry will indeed have a single-player campaign. 2018’s “Call of Duty: Black Ops 4” was notable for not featuring any notable story mode to play, with developer Treyarch focusing more on multiplayer, zombies, and the new battle royale mode “Blackout.”

The campaign will feature “Modern Warfare” vet Capt. Price as players fill the boots of Tier 1 Operators fighting throughout Europe and the Middle East.

Besides the campaign, the traditional “Call of Duty” multiplayer will be returning as well along with a co-op mode called “elite operations. However, Infinity Ward has confirmed there will be no zombies mode to enjoy in this entry. While zombies fans will be disappointed, it shouldn’t be surprising as previous “Modern Warfare” games hadn’t featured zombies, either.

Even more notable by its absence, though, is a season pass. Season passes had long been how Activision made post-launch revenue on the “Call of Duty” series, typically offering four content packs for $50. However, Activision did catch some blowback for the number of microtransactions along with the season pass packed into “Black Ops 4.” Instead, new maps and content will be made available as free updates. That said, it remains to be seen if the game will feature some type of monetization model around cosmetics, akin to “Fortnite” or “Apex Legends.”

And while details are light on this front, “Modern Warfare” will also feature cross-play from console to PC. Cross-play will be available for the game’s multiplayer and co-op modes, further blurring the lines between platforms. Infinity Ward has promised more details in the near future.
