Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have been like two peas in a pod ever since they first started dating in 2019. Recently, the "Senorita" singer shot for Bustle’s denim issue where she got candid on her relationship with Mendes, her friendship with Taylor Swift and her face-off with body-shaming.

Talking about her boyfriend, Cabello said, "I probably have a nurturing attitude because I also like being nurtured. I'm lucky that my partner is the same way," she told the outlet.

"There's a lot of sweetness and tenderness, I think we're both sensitive. I'm really lucky to be able to surround myself with tenderness; it's really important to me," she added.

Cabello also talked about how the duo has always been there for each other as they dealt with body shaming issues, and how they help each other through such insecurities and public scrutiny.

"[He] would tell me like, 'Dang, I have these kinds of thoughts or whatever.' I think that him talking about it has been a really big step in transforming that relationship with his body," she said, before saying she could often relate to him. "I certainly feel obsessive, [like] I need to go to the gym, I need to do this, I need to lose weight quickly. I've felt like that. That's the societal voice in your head," Cabello said in the interview.

Body-shaming is a common issue, especially among celebrities. The “Liar” singer was no exception. Cabello recalls an instance that she got body-shamed after a photo of her at the beach came out. “This hurts so bad,” she remembered thinking at the time. "The whole day I felt insecure. I felt like it was changing how I was thinking about food and eating... really messing me up," she said.

Instead of letting the constant trolling and body-shaming pull her down, Cabello decided to own the narrative and love her body just how it is.

"You can work out a few hours a day and never eat carbs and whatever, but that's just not a balanced life. That's not what I want… I can't change to fit that mold," she said, adding, "I'm going to wear whatever, and if there's paparazzi around, that sucks, but I'm not going to completely reroute who I am for that."

Aside from her relationship, the 24-year-old singer also opened up about her difficulty in building friendships, "It's hard for me to get close to people," she said, but being friends with Taylor Swift has taught her the true meaning of making friends.

"Taylor has always been so kind and supportive and also goes out of her way to give you artist advice. [She's] really about making friendships and relationships the most important thing. She is so brave at watering those seeds of friendships and relationships," Cabello said of Swift. "She always answers my texts and she's so busy. I don't even answer texts because I'm just worse at it. It takes intention to be like, 'Let me write all my friends back.”
