Since leaving Fifth Harmony in December, Camila Cabello has come a long way. Almost a year after going solo, Cabello was awarded the official number 1 award at the Music Industry Trusts Awards. After picking up the coveted trophy, the “Crying in the Club” singer gushed over being recognized for her success as a solo artist.

“Oh my god... I’m beyond over the moon. I’m so happy. I’m so excited!” she told Official Charts after accepting her award at the Monday night ceremony in London.

“I’ll definitely be celebrating with my team. Right now I’m getting ready backstage to do a performance, but whenever we find out amazing news like this we definitely flap - we scream!” she added.

The star also hit the stage to perform her new song,“Never Be The Same.” Meanwhile, Cabello’s hit song, “Havana,” has managed to top the charts and the songstress admitted that she couldn’t be happier. Cabello revealed that she and her family “went crazy” after learning about the news.

“You have to celebrate things like this because you never know if it’s going to happen again. My mom screamed. My dad doesn’t scream, but there were hugs - and maybe a small scream from him in a masculine, fatherly way,” she explained.

Although Cabello was with Fifth Harmony for almost five years, the star owes her solo success to her alter egos. In a behind scenes look at her “Havana” music video, the star explained how her real name, Karla, and middle name, Camila, allow her to have different personalities.

Growing up, Cabello’s family always called her by her middle name rather than her first name which has helped her form two perspectives. “In my life, I push myself to do a lot of things that make me uncomfortable, and that’s how I started dancing. That’s how I feel like I found myself — through Camila and performance and music, as that confident video vixen,” she explained.

“They’re both over-exaggerated personas of me. I really wanted to show in an exaggerated way, two different sides of me.”

While she prefers to go by her middle name, Cabello insists that she wouldn’t be complete without Karla. “Camila, which is kind of this performer in me and Karla is who I still am in my essence and who I was growing up: really awkward around boys, doesn’t know what the heck to say, is shy and introverted, doesn’t really like going out because she just likes to be in her fantasy movie world and that’s really me,” she said.

Fans can expect to hear the real side of Cabello when she drops her debut album, “The Hurting, The Healing,” The Love,” next year.
