Fifth Harmony has had quite an eventful year after splitting with group member Camila Cabello. Following her departure, the singers went on to release their third studio album and now, it looks like Normani Kordei is gearing up for her own solo venture-- but that doesn’t mean she is following in her former band mate’s footsteps.

In a new interview with Kode magazine, Kordei gushed about the exciting solo journey she is about to embark on, after signing a management deal without her group. However, this doesn’t mean Fifth Harmony is breaking up, as the 21-year-old says she simply wants to discover who she is outside of singing alongside her 5H band members, Lauren Jauregui, Dinah Jane Hansen and Ally Brooke Hernandez.

“As an artist I’m just having the time of my life finding myself and being in the studio figuring out what music means to me. It’s kind of like being in an amusement park, there are so many different possibilities, especially because of having the freedom, knowledge, and wisdom that I’ve taken from the last five years with Fifth Harmony,” she explained.

“It’s amazing because it’s like a new beginning within a new beginning. We were reborn and now I would be able to take away everything that I’ve learned. I’m ready to see what is next for Normani,” the “Down” singer added.

Looking to the future for Kordei doesn’t involve dwelling on the past and stirring up old feuds, but the star stands by the group’s performance at the MTV VMAs, where they metaphorically threw Cabello off the stage and out of the group.

“The four of us have been through so much together. We’ve been each others’ strength through absolutely everything and we feel like we’ve finally come into what it is that we were supposed to be all along,” she explained.

Kordei insisted that the ladies wanted to show the world that they are still united after losing a member in their group. “We are Fifth Harmony and we wanted to make that known to the rest of the world. We’re in an amazing place, and at the end of the day it’s about happiness and being able to go to sleep at night. We love what we’re doing and we're continuously inspired by one another.”

Although Kordei has yet to announce exactly what she plans to do during her solo journey, the singer has already been in the studio with fellow singer Khalid, and admitted that she wouldn’t be opposed to taking on the acting world.

Next up, fans can catch Kordei performing with Fifth Harmony at the Latin American Music Awards, which will take place on Thursday at 9 p.m. EDT.
