Camilla Parker Bowles’ tiara is more expensive than Princess Diana’s.

The Princess of Wales’ Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara is very popular. It has become Kate Middleton’s favorite since the Duchess of Cambridge has been seen using it several times already. However, gemologist and jewelry expert Deborah Papas of Prestige Pawnbrokers pointed out that the Duchess of Cornwall’s Greville’s tiara is worth millions more than it.

Princess Diana’s tiara has 19 arches and a single drop oriental pearl suspended from a lover’s knot in each one graduating slightly in size around the piece. The drops are flexible and show shimmering movements when the wearer turns her head.

“The piece is hard to value due to the complexity of the make and the large number of diamonds to consider as well as natural pearls which are rare to find in this size and shape," Papas said.

She added that if she were to estimate its price it would be between $1.3 million to $2.6 million.

On the other hand, Camilla’s tiara is made by Boucheron, the Parisian jewelry house, in 1921. Its design was altered by the Queen Mother in 1953.

The tiara features three very large tapered diamonds rub-over set in the center of the elongated hexagons, which are pavé set with more diamonds. The top row has five tapered diamonds that are altered to a cluster of four diamonds and an extra marquise cut diamond at the center, giving it a grander and taller feel.

According to Papas, Camilla’s Greville tiara was originally called the Boucheron Honeycomb tiara after its creator. She also added that it is more expensive than Princess Diana’s.

“Again, a difficult piece to put a value but set in platinum with its numerous stunning diamonds and given the fact it is a Boucheron piece, I would estimate it to be in the region of £2 – 3 million ($2.6 - 3.9 million),” the expert said.

Camilla is expected to be queen consort when Prince Charles becomes the new king. Initially, the palace announced that she would only be princess consort, but royal experts don’t think so.

Robert Jobson is confident that Camilla will be queen consort and this is what her title should be unless there’s a change in the law. However, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall might have a hard time during their reign because the people are not warm to them.
