Celebrate Bisexuality Day is observed annually on Sept. 23 to commemorate bisexuality and honor the people who have bravely fought for the rights of the bisexual community.

The day also aims to bring awareness about the facts and struggles the members of the bisexual community go through in their lives.

Bisexuality is described as human sexuality in which a person has both heterosexual and homosexual desires. Simply put, the person is attracted to both the sexes -- one's own and the opposite.

Bisexual rights activists Wendy Curry, Michael Page and Gigi Raven Wilbur, from the United States, first established Celebrate Bisexuality Day. However, it was officially observed in 1999, by the International Lesbian and Gay Association Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa.
