Quentin Tarantino could be taking on his first project about a real-life event, the Hollywood Reporter scooped Tuesday, as it appears the director is approaching actors about roles in a movie based on the Manson Family murders. The murders were an orchestrated killings of actress Sharon Tate and several others in 1969 by Charles Manson and his followers.

The yet-to-be-titled film is being written by Tarantino, who will also direct, according to the THR. The trade magazine’s sources said that Harvey and Bob Weinstein, who produced Tarantino films before are also involved. Actors that appear to have been approached include Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lawrence. Margot Robbie is also rumored to have met with Tarantino about playing the role of Tate.

WME, the talent agency that represents Tarantino, looks to be shopping the film to studios. The movie could begin production as soon as 2018.

This would be Tarantino’s 10th film. His last two films, 2015’s “The Hateful Eight” and 2013’s “Django Unchained,” both premiered on Christmas.

Tarantino’s 2009 film, “Inglourious Basterds,” tells a fictionalized alternative history of a successful assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler, but his other films have been entirely fictional creations.

The Manson family murders would be a heavy topic to take on but wouldn't be a departure from Tarantino’s other films, which have included a lot of violence and dirty language.

In August of 1969 Manson and his hippie commune group brutally murdered five people at the California home of director Roman Polanski. The five killed included Tate, Polanski's pregnant wife, and four others. His followers who undertook the killings were Tex Watson, Susan Atkins and Patricia Krenwinkel. The group is also responsible for several other area killings.

A representative for Tarantino did not immediately return International Business Times' request for comment.
