  • Dwayne Johnson has declined the offer to host the 2022 Emmy Awards but declined
  • The "Black Adam" star is excited for his fans to see his upcoming anti-hero movie
  • Chris Rock also declined the same offer because he's in the middle of his comedy tour

Dwayne Johnson would love to host the 2022 Emmy Awards but had to decline the offer.

The "Black Adam" star turned down the offer to host the upcoming awards show. He spoke with Entertainment Tonight Wednesday and explained why he had to pass on the gig.

"It was just schedule. I was really, truly honored when they came to me and asked, but it was just a scheduling thing," he told ET. "That's all. That's really what it comes down to."

Although Johnson won't be hosting the awards show, he has several projects in the pipeline. His superhero movie "Black Adam" will be released in October and he "can't wait" for his fans to see it.

"I think we are in a new era of anti-hero," Johnson told ET. "What I love about Black Adam is there's nothing to reference before him."

The 50-year-old actor is also part of the 3D computer-animated superhero comedy movie "DC League of Super-Pets," which will hit theaters on July 29. Fans will hear his voice in the flick, along with Keanu Reeves, Kevin Heart, John Krasinski and more.

"It's the two greatest things: superheroes and pets," he said.

Aside from Johnson, Chris Rock was also offered the hosting gig but turned it down for the same reason — schedule conflict. The comedian is currently in the middle of his comedy tour.

"He's in the middle of his tour and is preparing for the taping of his comedy special, which will be taping this fall," another source told ET.

The insider added that the "Spiral" star is "over" Hollywood and hopes to travel and lay low after his tour.

Rock made headlines during the 94th Academy Awards when Will Smith smacked him on stage for joking about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's bald head when he was about to present an award. Following the altercation, the Academy decided to ban Smith from the event for ten years.

"The 94th Oscars were meant to be a celebration of the many individuals in our community who did incredible work this past year; however, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and harmful behavior we saw Mr. Smith exhibit on stage," the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors said in a letter.

"[F]or a period of 10 years from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards."
