Shares of CD Projekt, the developer behind the Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher series, jumped Tuesday after the the company announced several upcoming projects. The Poland-based company said it is working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed Orion.

The game "will take the Cyberpunk franchise further and continue harnessing the potential of this dark future universe," CD Projekt said in a tweet Tuesday.

While Cyberpunk, launched in 2020, was initially panned by reviewers and users for bugs on older consoles, the company has made improvements since. As of last week, the developer said it had sold 20 million copies. The game's success has also been buoyed by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, an animated series that hit Netflix in September.

In Tuesday's announcement, the company revealed it's also developing a new trilogy of games set in the Witcher universe. That series also has a Netflix show, starring Henry Cavill, which skyrocketed the sales of 2015's The Witcher 3.

CD Project, which launched two decades ago, remains firm on its vision as a studio and developer.

"We're here to create revolutionary role-playing games with memorable stories that inspire gamers," Adam Kiciński, the company's president and joint CEO said.

The company laid out its future plans in detail in Tuesday's strategy update, which included switching to the Unreal engine going forward. CD Project said its partnership with Fortnite developer Epic Games is central to that.

"Our new engine [Unreal Engine 5] offers a solid tech framework, allowing us to develop multiplayer for most of our future titles,"said Michal Nowakowski, the company's vice president of business development.

Shares of CD Projekt climbed around 7% Wednesday afternoon, after a nearly 9% surge at the market open.
