A “dream match” that professional wrestling fans have been waiting see over the past few years will finally happen Sunday night. WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar will take on new WWE Champion Daniel Bryan at Survivor Series 2018.

The main event of the upcoming pay-per-view was supposed to feature Lesnar and AJ Styles in a rematch from Survivor Series 2017. That all changed Tuesday night when Bryan defeated Styles to become the WWE Champion on “SmackDown Live,” turning heel in the process.

It was one of the most shocking moments on WWE TV in recent years. Bryan might be the most beloved wrestler of the last decade, and he had been a babyface since 2012. He defeated Styles with a low blow and attacked the former champion after the match to complete his heel turn.

Bryan returned to the ring at WrestleMania 34, ending a retirement that lasted a little over two years. The four-time WWE Champion had been forced to stop wrestling because of head-related injuries.

Lesnar regained his Universal Championship by defeating Braun Strowman at Crown Jewel on Nov. 2. He had previously held the title from WrestleMania 33 to SummerSlam this year, giving him a record-setting 504-day reign.

It appears that WWE decided to change the main event to Lesnar vs. Bryan when the most-anticipated match was pulled from Survivor Series. SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch will no longer be able to take on Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey because Lynch suffered a severe concussion and what WWE has described as a “broken face.”

Charlotte Flair will take on Rousey in Lynch's place.
