Daniel Craig’s “Macbeth” performances on Broadway have been officially canceled after he tested positive for COVID-19.

The 54-year-old English actor had two shows scheduled for Saturday, but both were scrapped at the last minute after getting his diagnosis that afternoon. The production shared the official announcement on Twitter.

“Performance update for Saturday, April 2. Today’s matinee and evening performance of 'Macbeth' are canceled due to Daniel Craig just testing positive for COVID this afternoon,” the tweet read.

The production apologized for the inconvenience but made it clear that they decided to cancel the shows to ensure the safety of the audience, cast and crew amid the ongoing pandemic.

Those who bought tickets for the shows will be refunded at the original point of purchase. They are encouraged to visit the production’s official website for updated information on how they can get a refund.

The Longacre Theater, the venue of the shows, relayed the same announcement, noting that Craig will be out for a while. He was supposed to be part of the 15-week run of the Broadway staging of “Macbeth,” Deadline reported.

After his 15-year run as James Bond, Craig was eager to start a new phase in his career by joining the production, which also stars Ruth Negga. Preview performances for the show have been running since March 29, ahead of its official opening on April 29, Collider has learned.

Craig’s final outing as Bond was in “No Time to Die.” In January, he revealed that he had been waiting for the iconic spy’s death for a long time.

“I had this idea, I wanted to kill him off a long time ago — in ‘Casino Royale’ — for all sorts of reasons. One, purely egotistical. I feel like I needed to end what I did on it and that I would only be satisfied if I could walk away and there was nowhere else for that to go,” he said during an interview for Variety with his co-star Javier Bardem.

Craig got what he wanted in “No Time to Die” as his character ended up sacrificing himself for the love of his life. It remains unclear if the franchise is planning a reboot with another actor playing Agent 007.
