On Friday night, "Dateline" will examine the mysterious vanishing of nursing student Michelle Le on May 27, 2011, in San Francisco, California. Throughout the episode of the true-crime show, NBC correspondent Keith Morrison will take a closer look at the circumstances surrounding the investigation as law enforcement officials worked to find out the truth.

Leading up to Le's disappearance, she had been captured on security footage leaving her job at a training hospital at 6:55 p.m. After exiting the building, she headed towards her white Honda CRV on the third floor of the parking garage.

Upon reviewing the footage, those who knew Le's typical work schedule found it be odd that she would have left at that time due to the fact that her eventual exit at 7:17 p.m. was before her shift normally ended. "For reasons unknown - and without permission - she has left her post at the hospital," Morrison states in a preview for the true-crime show.

Continuing, he asks, "But why? Why then? Just an hour or two before the end of her shift."

At around 9 p.m. that evening, Le's nursing instructor was captured on camera searching for her student's vehicle. Roughly five minutes later, the Honda returns to its previous location on the third floor of the garage. Upon its arrival, the teacher waves in an attempt to flag it down, but the driver suddenly stops, puts the car into reverse, and flees.

Throughout the investigation into Le's whereabouts, the electronic eyes of security cameras would play an important role in figuring out what happened to the nursing student on that day in 2011.

"Why, that day, couldn't she have stepped out and gone to another campus that day and avoided this whole thing?" a person who was once close to Le asks in the preview.
