David Starkey recently defended Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, from critics.

The TV historian commented about the Duchess of Sussex while at the unveiling of a Mary Queen of Scot's portrait in Kent. He told reporters at Hever Castle that Markle is so much better than all of Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriends who are “Eurotrash.”

“I think when you look, certainly, at the recent history of the monarchy, she is so exotic, so strange. On the other hand, she is so much better than Harry probably would have got if you look at his previous girlfriends. They’re Eurotrash,” he said (via Daily Mail).

Starkey went on to say that Markle displays poise, elegance, confidence, and a degree of assurance, which is not overwhelming. The historian said that Markle could hardly have done better and Queen Elizabeth II most likely thinks the same.

The historian also commented on how modern and different the current monarchy has become. He said that from Queen Mary’s time, commoners like Markle and Kate Middleton would have never been given the chance to become Queen. He also said that Markle and Queen Mary are very different from each other.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry dated a handful of women and was linked to some others before she met Markle. The Duke of Sussex was previously in a relationship with Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas, and he is now friends with them. Cressida and Bonas were present at Prince Harry and Markle’s royal wedding on May 19.

Prince Harry met Markle for the first time in London in 2016 after they were introduced to each other by their common friend. They immediately hit it off and figured out a way to continue seeing each other despite the distance. Markle was still filming for “Suits” in Toronto and Prince Harry is residing in London.

Over a year later, the couple announced their decision to tie the knot. Markle also transferred to London to be with Prince Harry.
