A woman declared dead by doctors woke up just before her funeral. The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Karnataka on Wednesday.

According to local reports, the woman, identified as 55-year-old Malati Chougule, was suffering from high fever. She was admitted to a hospital Wednesday morning after she lost consciousness. Despite best efforts, doctors failed to revive her and she was declared dead in the afternoon. The doctors asked the woman’s family to take her home after clearing the dues.

Accordingly, the woman’s relatives took her home and placed her body in the front yard. The family members then began preparations for her funeral. Suddenly, Chougule opened her eyes and got up, leaving everyone shocked.

One of the villagers, who had gathered at the home, then convinced the family members that it was no miracle and that the woman came back from temporary coma.

In a similar incident in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh last year, a man woke up during his final rites but died a few minutes later. The man, identified only 28-year-old Sanjay, was admitted to a hospital where he was diagnosed with jaundice. A week later, his condition deteriorated and he was declared dead by the doctors. His body was taken back home for the final rites. During the funeral preparations, the man opened his eyes. He then gestured that he wanted water to drink. The relatives got a cup of water and let him drink it. He went motionless a few minutes later.
