Debbie Lesko Accidentally Vows To Shoot Her Grandkids While Opposing Gun Reform

Rep. Debbie Lesko, R-Ariz, accidentally said she would do anything in her power to protect her five grandkids and will even shoot them if she had to. The GOP congresswoman made the gaffe in her speech defending the Second Amendment on the House floor Tuesday.

"I have five grandchildren. I would do anything — anything — to protect my five grandchildren. Including, as a last resort, shooting them, if I had to, to protect the lives of my grandchildren," she said in her speech criticizing the proposed national "red flag law," which would restrict gun access to people considered a threat, reported AZ Central.

A visibly angered Lesko then lambasted Democrats, accusing them of trying to "take away my right to protect my grandchildren" and "the rights of law-abiding citizens to protect their own children."

Lesko's slip-up is being widely discussed on Twitter after a video of the speech went viral on the platform. Some have expressed concern for the Republican's grandchildren, while another section of Twitter users has been rolling out jokes surrounding her erroneous speech.

"I hope Debbie Lesko's grandkids rent Home Alone tonight, to learn some defensive tactics," read a tweet. "Tonight, I'm so very grateful that Debbie Lesko was NOT my grandmother," wrote another Twitter user.

"I hope the parents of these poor children take out a restraining order against Debbie Lesko immediately. And I hope she is censured for uttering such a vile threat. #GOPDeathCult #GOPDomesticTerrorists #GOPGunsOverPeople," read an irate tweet. "Anybody check on Debbie Lesko's grandkids?" another tweet read.

Lesko issued a clarification, amid all the buzz, saying her words were being twisted.

"It never ceases to amaze me the lengths gun control zealots will go! They turned my speech about protecting Second Amendment rights and my right to protect my grandchildren from violent criminals into a claim I would harm my own grandchildren. Absolutely ridiculous!" the congresswoman tweeted.

Lesko is currently serving her second term in the House, representing an Arizonan district that covers the Northwest Valley and is campaigning for a third term. She was endorsed by former President Donald Trump in March.

Last month, New York Times journalists released an audio in which Lesko, a day before the Jan.6 insurrection, was heard predicting that Trump supporters were "going to go nuts" at the Capitol if the election results weren't overturned.
