Nearly two hundred passengers aboard a Delta flight From JFK to Los Angeles on Wednesday were delayed 18 hours before it finally took off.

Flight DL975 was scheduled to fly from New York at 3:30 pm on Wednesday. There was an initial delay of an hour, and it pushed back from the gate at 4:27 pm. The initial delay led to a sequence of further holds. The passengers claimed poor communication and the absence of meaningful assistance and amenities made the situation worse than it had to be.

Delta claimed the flights were delayed because of rough weather in the Northeast where the plane was departing.

Customers were then offered water and snacks, but there were no hotel vouchers. One of the passengers, Emma Slater, from "Dancing with the Stars’' posted a video showing the passengers unanimously heckling an airline staffer who announced no sleeping accommodations were available despite the delay.

In response, Delta issued an apology claiming it will be offering the inconvenienced passengers a gesture of goodwill because of the incident.

The apology read the delays were because of weather affecting the northeastern airspace. It also reiterated that customers were offered water, snacks, pillows and blankets in the terminal before the flight departed early the next day for Los Angeles.

Several celebrities were among the passengers apparently, including Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles and "Stranger Things" star Dacre Montgomery.

Buzzfeed employee Matthew Begbie was also on the flight and sarcastically claimed he now lives on the plane. He had forgotten what the world was before the plane. Babies had been born, and people had died.

Similar quips like this went back and forth on the plane as passengers felt Flight 975 would never end.

Delta went on with its explanative statement saying the passengers did board on time, but there was a mechanical issue with the cargo hold, and this caused the initial delay.

After the mechanical issue was solved, predicted bad weather in the Northeast caused the subsequent delays.

The plane then returned to the gate because one of the pilots had reached his FAA mandated maximum working hours before a mandatory rest period termed as "timing out" ironically.

Passenger Eloise Moran told media outlets the airline initially did not provide dinner vouchers though they eventually did once the passengers started to deplane at 1 in the morning.

Delta has offered apologies on social media to the passengers, though several damning posts from the passengers are hurting its overall image.
