  • Bungie is working on improving the PvP experience in "Destiny 2"
  • Trials of Osiris will receive a significant rework in the future
  • More PvP maps and game modes are set to release in future updates

Changes are coming to “Destiny 2’s” PvP game mode, including a revamped Trials of Osiris and several key alterations to overarching systems and mechanics to hopefully improve the multiplayer PvP experience.

Destiny 2” assistant game director Joe Blackburn posted a long thread on Twitter that detailed their plans for the Crucible this year. He said that competitive PvP is a key part of the “Destiny 2” experience and they want to emphasize this by making the Crucible feel more rewarding while being less frustrating for players.

The first big change that Blackburn teased is their intent to change 3-Peeking. For the uninitiated, 3-Peeking is a cheese tactic that lets players peek from corners using the third-person camera view provided by swords and player emotes. Blackburn did not explicitly state how they’re going to change this, but it’s likely that there will be some sort of line-of-sight mechanic similar to what Respawn Entertainment did when they introduced character emotes to “Apex Legends.”

Blackburn also hinted at the Trials of Osiris revamp, but he did not specify the exact changes that they are planning to implement.

The Trials of Osiris is an extremely competitive game mode that rewards the best players with top-tier rewards and loot. It has been suffering from long queues due to low player counts and it’s often looked down upon by the community because of the toxicity of the players who do play the game mode.

Once the team is done fixing Trials, Blackburn said they will take a look at improving the broader PvP scene as a whole and implement changes that will benefit the entire PvP ecosystem in “Destiny 2.”

Apart from these, Blackburn also mentioned that they plan to add new maps and game modes to the Crucible that will be released on a consistent and predictable basis. He said that they will begin releasing new maps by first porting two vaulted maps into the current version of “Destiny 2’s” engine.

There is no concrete release schedule for any of these changes as of late, but more information is expected to be revealed soon during the “Destiny 2” showcase on Aug. 24.
