Devil May Cry
There’s now confirmation that “Devil May Cry V” is really happening. Ninja Theory/Steam

A major spoiler on the rumored fifth installment of the “Devil May Cry” game franchise has just been leaked online. And it is “major” because almost everything about the project has just been outed save for the official release date.

On Sunday, someone posted on ResetEra a detailed spoiler on what the new “Devil May Cry” game could be like. The community member with the handle Son of Sparda appears to have thorough knowledge on creator Hideaki Itsuno’s plans for the fifth installment based on the opening statement found on the post.

“For quite some while, we the ‘Devil May Cry’ community, have been aware of the existence of a new ‘DMC game.’ After reading that Hideaki Itsuno plans to unveil his secret project this year, we waited diligently to see what the project was even though we knew full and well what it actually was,” Son of Sparda wrote before stating, “Original plan was to leak this document after PSX/Capcom Cup but details of this document started to spread like wildfire and it was only a matter of time before it got posted in less savory places without context so we are leaking this earlier than anticipated.”

The grand reveal appears to have been delayed several times. Fans waited for Itsuno’s announcement through E3, TGS, Paris Games. With only less than a month left before 2017 ends, some fans could be hoping for the announcement to happen at this year’s PlayStation Experience, which is scheduled to happen on Dec. 10 and 11.

However, Push Square believes that the fifth “Devil May Cry” game won’t be announced this year. Son of Sparda also hinted this through a part of the post that says “Sony decided to scale back on PSX and instead scale up E3 2018.” The game was originally scheduled for release sometime between April 2018 and March 2019. Unfortunately, the plan was changed, so the game is now slated for release between November 2018 to early 2019.

Another interesting tidbit about the upcoming game is its name. As per the leaker, the game is internally called “Devil May Cry V.” For some reason, Itsuno has decided to do away with the standard numeric system of the previous installments. So while the first four games are numbered 1 through 4, this new iteration is going with roman numeral “V” to indicate that it is the fifth installment in the franchise.

Son of Sparda also divulged that a trailer for the new game has been ready for a while now. “Devil May Cry V” is said to have been in development for two years now, so it won’t be surprising if indeed there’s already a teaser trailer for it. The promotional clip is said to be 1 minute and 50 seconds long, and it focuses on the story, characters and cutscenes. Speaking of cutscenes, fans can expect the longest cutscene runtime of any “DMC” game yet in this installment.

When it comes to the storyline spoilers, Comicbook has learned that “DMC V” could pick up where the previous installment left of. Three characters will be playable, and Dante and Nero are theorized to be two of the trio. The other player is speculated to be Vergil. Meanwhile, Trish is going to have a “prominent role” in this game, while the mention of “Prince of Darkness” in the spoiler strongly suggests that Mundus is returning as well.
