Princess Diana is rumored to have gone on a secret night out with Freddie Mercury years ago.

“Bohemian Rhapsody” star Rami Malek recently discussed the buzz while at the Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet. Malek played the role of the late Mercury in the award-winning film from last year.

“There was one moment that I hear Mercury took Princess Diana and disguised her as a man and took her into a bar, just so they could have their own fun moment without anybody else being aware. Now, I don’t know if that’s true, this might be an urban legend,” he told Entertainment Weekly.

Actress Cleo Rocos shared details about the alleged story and said that Princess Diana and Mercury were sipping champagne one night while watching reruns of “Golden Girls.” Mercury told the Princess of Wales that he and his friends were planning on going to a gay bar, and Princess Diana wanted to join.

Mercury and his pals then devised a plan to dress the British royal in an army jacket, aviator sunglasses, and a leather cap to hide her real identity. The plan worked and the mom of two managed to spend some time at the bar without being identified.

Princess Diana passed away six years after Mercury died on Nov. 24, 1991, due to AIDS. He was 45. According to People, the singer was diagnosed with the disease in 1987, but he denied that he tested positive for the disease.

Years after his death, his bandmate Brian May told The Telegraph that he and his band members knew that there wasn’t much time left. Mercury lost a considerable amount of weight, but he didn’t stop performing.

“Freddie wanted his life to be as normal as possible. He obviously was in a lot of pain and discomfort,” May said.

Meanwhile, Princess Diana passed away on Aug. 31, 1997, following a fatal car crash in Paris. Her boyfriend, Dodi Al Fayed, who was with her at that time, also passed away.
