Although “Kingdom Hearts III” and the remake of “Final Fantasy VII” have been in development for some time now, it seems as though that both won’t be out too soon. Director Tetsuya Nomura was interviewed recently, and he gave an update on both the upcoming games.

“Production is progressing on unannounced world, in a state that we cannot show them off,” Nomura said, as quoted by Gematsu, when asked about “Kingdom Hearts 3.” “In terms of development, there is still some way to go.”

The director was then asked about the current state of the “Final Fantasy 7” remake. “We’re steadily progressing on production,” Nomura said. “While we are making them, I apologize that the wait will be a bit longer for ‘Kingdom Hearts III’ and ‘Final Fantasy VII’ Remake. I am very sorry, but to that degree I will make a game that will meet your expectations.”

Based on Nomura’s statements, it seems like both “Kingdom Hearts III” and the “Final Fantasy VII” remake are still far from getting exact release dates. Although this may disappoint a lot of fans, at least Nomura and the Square Enix team are hard at work in making sure that the final versions of the games will please fans.

Even though both games are being kept tight under wraps, Nomura said that he wants to show off what they’ve been working on. “Last year, I didn’t put out much information on either title, but this year I want to show our progress at an event somewhere,” Nomura said. “The release of the titles themselves still have a way to go. But there are many titles releasing this year, if you can wait for any ‘surprises.’”

“Kingdom Hearts III” was first announced way back in 2013. At the time, Nomura admitted that he felt that the sequel was announced “a little bit too early” based on the game’s development status. Square Enix is currently focusing on “Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue,” which is scheduled to be released worldwide on Jan. 24.

On the other hand, “Final Fantasy VII Remake” was announced in 2015 with Square Enix releasing a short gameplay trailer during PlayStation Experience. Producer Yoshinori Kitase clarified that the game would be a multi-part series with each installment functioning as one full-sized game.

The episodic nature of the remake appears to be contributing to the delay of the game considering that the original was already expansive. Also, Square Enix was busy back in November 2016 with the release of “Final Fantasy XV.”
