“Planet of the Apes” fans finally have something to look forward to years after the original film trilogy ended. Wes Ball, the new director for the franchise, revealed that the trilogy will soon have a fourth film.

According to Games Radar, this fourth film won’t be directly connected to the main story in any way. The “Maze Runner” director said that this movie will instead exist in the same universe. He also praised the film trilogy, starting from “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” to “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and, finally, culminating in “War for the Planet of the Apes.”

He said that while it was tempting to add to another installment to the current trilogy, doing a film done in “their own way” seemed like a better idea.

Ball also assured the fans that they’re “in good hands.” He hinted a little at how the movie might go, saying that people watching it will feel as if the story is connected to the original trilogy. At the same time, he also said that they would be trying out some “cool new stuff” and wanted to have the movie premiere “on the biggest screen possible,” a plausible hint to an IMAX film.

The only problem is that the current lockdown could complicate moving the project along. Ball continued to assure fans that Caesar’s legacy isn’t in any real danger, though; according to Collider, the film could start production as soon as its possible, thanks to most of the shots being done virtually through CG images.

There were a lot of things which ball talked about, including landing the gig, and how he managed to become connected to the project after being recommended by former “Planet of the Apes” director Matt Reeves.

Aside from the details Ball has already been very generous about, he said that the concept art and screenplay are already in production. Suffice to say that it was a very wise and serious move to go into another direction for a new “Planet of the Apes” film.
