A disabled man in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, whose burnt body was found by his family on a pile of garbage last week, was smothered and stabbed to death by his friends, police said.

The victim, identified as Sachin, was out partying with his friends Vivek, Ravi, Saurabh and another person named Sachin in Ghaziabad's Harbans Nagar area on Nov. 21 prior to his death, newspaper The Times of India reported.

The four friends allegedly abused the victim on caste basis, to which he opposed, according to the outlet. The group reportedly smothered the victim before fatally stabbing him with scissors, Ghaziabad Circle Officer 2 Avinash Kumar said.

The group used fuel cakes to burn the victim's body on a pile of garbage in an attempt to hide his identity, according to the officer.

The victim's brothers, Sandip and Vishal, found a skeleton and burnt clothes in a vacant plot Friday after they were unable to trace their sibling. The two were reportedly able to identify their brother with the help of the clothes.

Police have arrested Vivek, Ravi and Saurabh, while Sachin is still at large, Kumar said. It was unclear what charges they could face over the incident.

Authorities are trying to confirm the victim's identity through a DNA test.

A similar incident happened in Florida in August when a man was arrested for killing his two friends over an argument and abandoning their bodies.

Police in St. Petersburg arrested 31-year-old Patrick Cretors over the deaths of Geno Hansana, 29, and Ai Noy Graham, 30, on Aug 1.

Cretors was allegedly in the backseat of a car with all three men that night when he pulled out a gun and shot Hansana and Graham near the 3200 block of 11th Avenue South at around 7:15 p.m.

Hansana, who was occupying the driver seat of his car, was removed from the vehicle and had his body dropped on the road. Graham, meanwhile, was left inside the car's passenger seat after Cretors arrived at 20th Avenue North.

Cretors fled on foot, but officers were able to locate him.

Hansana and Graham were dead by the time first responders arrived.

Detectives later learned that the shooting was caused by a verbal argument among the three men, but the reason behind the disagreement was unknown.

Cretors has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder over the incident. Additionally, he's facing one count each of shooting into a vehicle, burglary of an occupied dwelling, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, grand theft, stalking and possession of ecstasy.
