A man fatally shot his fiancée’s pet dog for growling at him. The incident took place in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Wednesday (May 6).

According to an incident report, police arrived at a home and found a woman crying outside the residence. Te woman told the officers that her fiancé had fatally shot her dog for growling at him. He also grabbed the woman by the hair when she attempted to leave the home with her child.

Investigation revealed that the accused, Randy White, had been drinking heavily. When he was searching for the TV’s remote control under the bed, the canine hiding under the bed began growling at him. The accused left the bedroom and returned with a gun. He asked the woman to get off the bed. The accused then got down on his knees and opened fire at the canine. The canine died on the spot.

When the horrified woman tried to leave the residence with her child, the accused grabbed her by her hair and said that he wouldn’t let them leave. White then wrapped the canine and placed it in the trash can outside their home.

The accused was taken into custody from the garage of the home. When questioned, he told the officers that he didn’t know why he killed the canine as he was an animal lover. The man was charged with domestic violence second degree, discharging a firearm into a dwelling, and ill-treatment of animals.

The incident comes a month after a man in New Jersey pleaded guilty to shooting his neighbor’s therapy dog. On Sept.18 last year, the canine was found howling in pain. Vets revealed that the canine, which served as a therapy dog for a Vietnam War veteran, was shot in the head. The canine had to be euthanized. Investigation revealed that 64-year-old William Stroemel had shot the dog with an air rifle. The man was taken into custody and charged with possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and animal cruelty. He pleaded guilty to the charges in April.
