Wolfgang Van Halen, son of the late Eddie Van Halen, has revealed he has no intention of replacing his father in the band.

Less than a month after Eddie’s death, Wolfgang said in an interview with Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show that he doesn’t plan to step into his father’s shoes. He maintained that Van Halen will not be officially reuniting despite fans asking for the music to continue.

"You can't have Van Halen without Eddie Van Halen. I'm not Dad. I'm not going to replace him," the 29-year-old musician said in the Monday episode of "The Howard Stern Show."

"I've spent my life making sure I'm not like him and that I'm my own person. My dad would be pissed off. He'd be like, 'What the f— are you doing? Go do your s—," he continued.

Although Wolfgang said an official Van Halen reunion was impossible, he hinted that a tribute show may happen "down the line." The bassist went on to say that he has been trying to come to terms with not having a father anymore so fans should do the same.

“I think the fans can try and come to terms with and figure out how to deal with the fact that we're not going to have Van Halen anymore,” he said, adding, “The music is going to live on forever but you can't continue without Eddie Van Halen."

Wolfgang also isn’t going to check Eddie’s collection of tapes anytime soon because it’s “not the priority right now.” However, there would come a time when he would go through them, he assured.

Speaking about this grief, Wolfgang explained that there are better days, but the pain remains. He added that “it’s always going to hurt.”

“The gift and the curse of it was that we had such a close connection. And now for the rest of my life, there's no way I'll never be able to not think about him no matter what I do — which is good, but it hurts a lot," he admitted.

The legendary rock star died in early October at 65 due to cancer. His health deteriorated rapidly in the final days of his confinement after his throat cancer eventually spread to all his organs.
