KEY POINTS

  • Moonveil has a special sheathe ability that launches magical blades
  • The katana can be found in the Gael Tunnel in Limgrave
  • Players need 12 STR, 18 DEX and 23 INT to wield the Moonveil katana

The Moonveil katana is one of the strongest weapons in “Elden Ring” for both PvE and PvP. It can not only fire Glintstone shockwaves with its special weapon art, but it can also cause both Frostbite and Blood Loss, making it very powerful against bosses.

“Elden Ring” players who are using melee-focused DEX/INT builds will want to grab this sword as soon as they can for its high scaling potential and its overall reliability. Thankfully, the Moonveil isn’t that hard to get.

The sword is located inside the Gael Tunnel near the border of Caelid and Limgrave. This spot is indicated by a black hole with an orange border on the world map located just southeast of the Smoldering Church. The mine entrance is on an outcrop guarded by a light entourage of soldiers.

Enter the mine, then go down the elevator to find a Site of Grace. The rest of this dungeon is similar to the other mines in the game. There are tough-skinned miners, smithing stones and magic crystals everywhere, so feel free to take whatever’s needed and find a way to the bottom.

The big boss here is a Magma Wyrm. This would normally be an easy fight like the other Magma Wyrm encounters in the open world, but the size of the arena relative to how big the boss is can make things a little trickier. Use fire resistance items to help mitigate damage caused by lava and use jumping attacks to dodge through the boss’ low, horizontal sweeps.

Defeating the Magma Wyrm will automatically reward “Elden Ring” players with the Moonveil, and a teleporter back to the beginning of the dungeon will appear in the center of the arena.

Moonveil requires 12 STR, 18 DEX and 23 INT to use. It shares the same moveset as the rest of the katanas, but its special version of the Unsheathe ability fires waves of magic at enemies. This ability has a surprisingly long range, especially the R2 version, which can be used to catch enemies off-guard.

The high INT scaling on Moonveil makes this sword one of the best melee weapons for a melee battlemage-style character as it perfectly synergizes with staves and spells.
