KEY POINTS

  • Hoarfrost Stomp deals both normal and Frostbite damage on hit
  • The skill is found innately in the Icerind Hatchet from Liurnia's Temple Quarter
  • A standalone Ash of War version can be found near Caria Manor

The Hoarfrost Stomp is a special Ash of War that’s been gaining popularity among speedrunners and PvP players in “Elden Ring” because of its sheer effectiveness.

The skill is innately attached to the Icerind Hatchet, a unique weapon that can be found in the Temple Quarter at Liurnia.

To get this weapon, “Elden Ring” players need to either defeat Godrick the Grafted at Stormveil Castle first or skip the boss fight altogether by using the secret path to Liurnia via the broken bridge at Stormhill.

After reaching Liurnia, players must venture down into the lake and into the Temple Quarter found southwest of the main academy grounds. This area is marked by sunken buildings with a number of steeples extending from the ground.

First, tag the Site of Grace by the north side of the Temple Quarter. Then, head to the nearest steeple directly south of the Grace. A chest containing the Icerind Hatchet can be found sitting neatly in the middle.

Surprisingly, the Icerind Hatchet does not require INT to wield. This means that players will be able to use Hoarfrost Stomp without investing points outside of the weapon’s 11 STR and 16 DEX requirements.

For those who want to get the standalone Ash of War version, head to the Main Caria Manor Gate Grace and head to the large pond to the east. Kill the invisible scarab running along the water to unlock the Hoarfrost Stomp’s standalone version.

On top of being able to use the skill on any melee weapon, this Ash of War allows players to infuse their weapons with Cold damage and give them an INT scaling bonus. This works excellently with weapons like the Uchigatana, as the infusion will let the weapon inflict both Frostbite and Blood Loss on their targets.

Hoarfrost Stomp is one of the main abilities used by many speedrunners because of its strong damage output that can be made even stronger with other Ashes of War like Determination and Royal Knight’s Resolve. Hit enemies with this skill enough times and they will eventually be Frostbitten, which will deal a burst of damage on top of reducing their defenses and stamina regeneration.
