Facebook fixed a bug in its Messenger app on Android devices that was killing users’ batteries and making their phones too hot.

The app apparently drained users’ phone's battery in just hours, even if they weren't using Messenger.

Users went on the internet to complain about the glitch.

“I was down 20% at 8am. Got up at 7am and checked my email,” said a user on a Reddit thread about the bug. “I was at 37% after 3 hours of work,” said another user.

Others complained their devices were getting too hot.

“It was draining my battery really bad and phone was getting hot. Had to delete them,” said a user on Reddit. “Oooh so that's why my phone has been abnormally hot recently. I've been worried,” added another.

David Marcus, Facebook’s vice president of messaging products, addresses the issues on Twitter this week with a solution to the problem.

“Issue was isolated and fixed server side. If you restart Messenger the problem should be gone now. Very sorry.”

Marcus also told users that those using the beta version of the apps to switch to the normal version.

“Maybe you should get out of beta and use the main prod cut. Betas always have less optimization by nature,” he said.
