Roughly two-thirds of the country is expected to see “tranquil” weather conditions when they are traveling to their Thanksgiving destinations this week.

"A relatively tranquil stretch of weather persists in the final days leading up to Thanksgiving," says the Weather Prediction Center (WPC).

A quick-moving storm in the Northeast is not expected to disrupt anyone’s travel plans for the holiday, however, the coldest temperatures of the season will be expected for the Midwest and the East on Wednesday. Temperatures in the Northeast could get as low as the 20s.

Travel conditions on Wednesday are considered to be favorable for travelers in almost all parts of the country, according to Accuweather. Rain is expected on Thursday in the Northwest as Washington is expected to experience some showers, while snow will be expected to hit the Northwest on Thanksgiving along with showers ranging from South Texas to Midwestern states such as Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan.

Accuweather has reported stiff winds could lead to moderate delays in midwestern cities such as Chicago, Minneapolis, Detroit, and Cleveland. The Southeast is expected to experience colder temperatures on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

"People heading to the South over Thanksgiving break should be prepared for cold weather tagging along," AccuWeather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham said.

Nighttime lows are expected to range from the upper 40s to the low 50s. Temperatures are even expected to drop to the mid-20s in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Columbia, South Carolina.

There are no travel delays expected in the Southwest in states like California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and the weather is expected to remain dry.

For those traveling home after Thanksgiving, lake-effect snow will be expected in the upper Midwest and Northeast and will last until Saturday.
