After three highly successful, award-winning seasons, “Fargo” is returning for the fourth time and it’ll be quite different, according to its showrunner. Two of the three seasons have taken place in the present-day midwest and one was set in the 70s. Season 4 plans on taking things just a little further west and into the past.

“Fargo” writer and director Noah Hawley sat down with Metro to talk about the new season, which is set in 1950s Kansas City. The installment will star Chris Rock as the head of an African American crime family who fled the south during the Jim Crow era. The plot then, inevitably, devolves into violence when the Kansas City Mafia gets involved.

Hawley noted to Metro that this season won’t be like previous versions, saying, “It is very different. It is huge. It is twice the size of any other season we have done.”

Alongside Rock, an all-star cast has been announced, from Timothy Olyphant to Jason Schwartzman. Other cast members include “Orange Is the New Black” star Uzo Aduba, Salvatore Esposito of “Gomorrah”, and “Legion” star Jeremie Harris. Harris and Hawley both previously worked together on “Legion,” as that is another show helmed by the talented writer and director.

As for what degree the Coen brothers, the writers and directors of the original “Fargo” film, are involved in the series, Hawley explained that they’re actually not too invested in the TV show. "But they’re nice," Hawley said. "They tolerate me”

“Fargo” Season 4 is set to premiere on FX in spring 2020.
