The New York Police Department (NYPD) is on the lookout for a female suspect who fatally shot a 42-year-old woman on a crowded street in Brooklyn, New York.

The victim, identified as Delia Johnson, suffered gunshot wounds to the head and legs after she was shot at point-blank range at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on Franklin Avenue at Prospect Place in Crown Heights, ABC News reported, citing police.

Graphic surveillance footage of the incident released by police Friday showed the suspect, dressed in black tights and a black long-sleeve shirt, approaching the victim from behind as the latter chats with a group of people. The suspect then pulled out a gun and shot the unsuspecting woman in the head.

According to police reports, the suspect shot the victim a few more times after she fell to the ground. The suspect then got into a white vehicle and sped away from the scene after the gunshots caused the crowd to scatter.

Johnson was immediately taken to the Interfaith Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Police have not released a possible motive for the shooting, and no arrests have been made. The female shooter appeared to be in her mid-20s, had a heavy build and had long blond hair, according to authorities.

The victim's family said Johnson and the suspect were both at a funeral earlier in the day, ABC7 New York reported. They added that the 42-year-old victim allegedly received a call later that day to go to Franklin Avenue but did not appear worried about anything.

"I asked everybody if they had words, they were both there, but there was no interaction," Mathis Johnson, the brother of Delia, told the outlet.

Family and friends vowed to keep Johnson’s memory alive during a candlelight vigil.

"She wasn't perfect, but her heart was perfect," her brother said. "The woman was heartless, she took a sister a daughter away, she took a mother."

Police encourage those with information on the shooting to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or visit its website.
