At times, the drama with Iris (Candice Patton) and her mother, Francine (Vanessa Williams), in episode 4 of "The Flash" Season 2 felt like a soap opera. First, Iris turned Francine away. Then, Francine revealed she was dying and changed Iris' mind. However, it is the last twist of the West family saga that will have major ramifications on the rest of the show, because Iris has a brother and that brother's name is Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale).

Iris is an investigative reporter, so, of course, she fact checked her mother's story before meeting with her a second time. The research confirmed that Francine was indeed in poor health, but also unearthed the secret that she had another child eight months after leaving Iris and Joe (Jesse Martin). That is some pretty big news. Will Iris tell her Dad and Barry (Grant Gustin)? Not so fast.

“Iris is now in the position that Barry was in last year, she’s keeping a secret to protect somebody,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told Entertainment Weekly.

Iris obviously wants to spare her dad the trauma of finding out he has a son he has never met -- Kreisberg confirmed that, yes, the boy is Wally West, and yes, Joe is the father -- but keeping the secret might prove difficult.

“She’s going to find that for all of her anger at Barry and Joe from last year, keeping this secret is not going to be so easy," said Kreisberg. It’s going to be weighing on her before she finally decides to take some action in an upcoming episode.”

Barry and Joe will find out eventually, because Wally West has a date with "The Flash." In August, Deadline Hollywood reported that Keiynan Lonsdale, best known for his roles as Uriah in “Insurgent” and Ollie in “Dance Academy,” had signed on to play the character in Season 2. Comic book fans will remember Wally as the nephew of Iris West. In the comics, Wally is a Flash super-fan and comes to visit his aunt in Central City. Then, a lightning strike results in him gaining the same powers as Barry and becoming Kid Flash! The show has clearly tweaked things a bit, making Wally Iris' long, lost brother, instead of a nephew, and time will tell when he will meet his speedster destiny.

How long can Iris keep the secret? Fans will have to wait to find out. "The Flash" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on the CW.
