Although Ralph Dibny, a.k.a. Elongated Man, will be introduced as an ally to Barry in Season 4 of “The Flash,” the Scarlet Speedster and the new character won’t see eye to eye on everything.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, executive producer Andrew Kreisberg revealed that “there’s going to be a lot of conflict” between Barry (Grant Gustin) and Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) “in terms of how to be a good guy” in the new season of the CW series.

“Ralph is hitting on everybody all the time. He’s brash and loud and doesn’t listen,” Kreisberg described Sawyer’s character, before revealing that the private detective is also hiding something about how he acquired his powers of malleability. “That’s one of the big mysteries of the season,” teased the executive producer.

The name Ralph Dibny was mentioned in Season 1, episode 7 as one of the 14 people who lost their lives during the particle accelerator explosion. It’s unclear, however, whether that Ralph and the Ralph that will be introduced in Season 4 are one.

While Ralph’s powers on the show likely came from the dark matter from the particle accelerator explosion, TVLine pointed out last July that the character’s comic book counterpart obtained his powers of elasticity from “gingo” fruit extract, which activated a latent metahuman gene in his body.

Based on the character breakdown obtained by That Hashtag Show last July, Ralph is a Ryan Reynolds- or Chris Pratt-type who will most likely be a comic relief for the new season. Although he’s able to change the shape of his body with ease, Ralph is having a difficult time changing his ways.

Sawyer was most recently seen on CW Seed’s “Saving the Human Race” and has just finished filming Season 2 of Anna Akana’s “Miss 2059” for go90. His other acting credits include TBS comedy “Glory Daze” and CBS soap opera “Young and the Restless.”
