  • Xbox replaced the launch icon for "Fortnite" on its games services
  • The image features the "Fortnite" Battle Bus over a plain background
  • Season 5 will end on March 16

A new promotional image for the upcoming sixth season of “Fortnite” has apparently been posted on social media, and fans have Xbox to thank for it.

Xbox changed the launch image for “Fortnite” one week before the scheduled release date of the new season. The new image features the game’s Battle Bus over a clean background with a few colorful streaks. “Fortnite” news and leaks account HYPEX tweeted the image for everyone to see.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t say much about what the new season might bring to the table. Close inspection reveals nothing out of the ordinary from the Battle Bus, but that might be the point.

“Fortnite” Season 5 introduced the Zero Point, a tear in reality that allowed other characters from famous franchises to take part in the game’s ongoing plot. The entire season featured a plethora of crossovers from films and comics, including “Alien,” “Predator,” “The Mandalorian” and multiple characters from both Marvel and DC Comics.

The Zero Point story will eventually culminate into the Zero Crisis event on March 16, as per official announcements. The season will end with a solo experience featuring Agent Jones.

What this event has in store is still unknown, but it will be the end of the Zero Point storyline.

The plain image of the Battle Bus may imply that “Fortnite” will return to its relative normality. The game may see fewer franchise crossovers in the future, but it may also introduce more depending on the conclusion to the Zero Crisis event.

The event may pave the way for an extended multiverse or it may end with the Zero Point closing for good.

Season 5 was full of new and interesting limited-time gameplay additions as well as a laundry list of original character skins and weapon designs. Players can expect the sixth season of “Fortnite” to retain this trend of content in the future.

“Fortnite” is available for free on PC and both current and next-gen versions of the Xbox and PlayStation consoles. More information will be revealed as the game inches closer to March 16 and the eventual release of Season 6.
