A stimulus check may not be in the works for all Americans, but that doesn't mean the current administration isn’t focused on funding other programs and projects to provide much-needed aid to those still struggling because of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

After finding some unexpected resistance on his $3.5 trillion spending plan within his own party, President Joe Biden revealed that he still has hopes that Congress will do what needs to be done to help the economy continue to rebound.

“The second thing that has to happen in September is for the Congress, the House and Senate, to finish passing my economic agenda so that we can keep up the historic momentum we’ve been building,” Biden said, according to Fox News. “It’s about investing in America’s future. Not about short-term stimulus. That’s not what we’re talking about. These are long-term prosperity we’re talking about. Creating millions of good-paying jobs for hardworking Americans. It's about reducing bottlenecks in our economy, about reducing long-term price pressures.”

The comments come after Senator Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.) revealed he does not plan to vote for the spending bill, arguing that it was too much money. Biden doubled down on his comments regarding how the bill, dubbed the American Families Plan, would benefit the country. Among the ways, the plan is expected to help the economy is create free pre-K and community college, and potentially further extend the Expanded Child Tax Credit to 2025. He has emphasized that it would be paid for by raising taxes on the rich instead of the middle class.

While the plan, if passed, would help extend the Child Tax Credit an additional four years, giving families $300/month for children under 6 and $250/month for children between the ages of 6-17. It would not include an additional stimulus check, despite growing calls by Americans for another payment, especially as the Delta Variant causes a surge in cases and brings new concerns about COVID-19's effect on the economy.

While the federal government does not have any current plans to release another round of direct payment stimulus checks, residents in some states are currently eligible for aid on the state level. Among the states where that kind of aid is coming is California, where residents are receiving a Golden State stimulus check.
