There’s a rumor circulating that the Samsung Galaxy S9 will have a taller 21:9 display, but it looks like that has already been debunked. The Galaxy S9 will reportedly come with the same 18.5:9 Infinity Display that’s on the Galaxy S8.

A source told the Dutch website GalaxyClub that the Galaxy S9 will actually be smaller than the S8. Despite the overall size difference, the S9 and S9+ will have the same 5.8-inch and 6,2-inch Infinity Displays of their predecessors. If both of the upcoming phones have the same screen sizes, why is it smaller?

Apparently, Samsung will simply be cutting down the bezels on the Galaxy S9 and S9+. IBT did report on a rumor that Samsung is planning to have a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent on its upcoming new Android flagship smartphones. Samsung will do this by making the top bezel narrower, while the bottom bezel will be close to being “non-existent.”

By further reducing the bezels, Samsung is able to put the same 5.8 and 6.2-inch Infinity Displays on the smaller frame of the Galaxy S9 and S9+. As for the overall design of the smartphones themselves, consumers shouldn’t expect any huge changes. It’s expected that the Galaxy S9 will retain the same shape and form of the S8. The only difference between the two models will be their overall sizes.

GalaxyClub’s report also reiterated the report from earlier this week that the smaller Galaxy S9 will have a single camera on its back along with 4GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the larger Galaxy S9+ will have a set of dual cameras like the Galaxy Note 8 and will have 6GB of RAM.

As for other specs, there are are no rumors or leaks yet on what the Galaxy S9 will have. However, it’s very likely that the upcoming Samsung flagship could be powered by the Snapdragon 845, which was officially revealed by Qualcomm earlier this week. The Snapdragon 845 is also expected to be in a lot of other Android flagship smartphones in 2018.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 was previously rumored to make its first appearance in January during CES 2018. Samsung has since dismissed that rumor saying that “it is unlikely” to happen. The next major event where Samsung could unveil the Galaxy S9 is the Mobile World Congress, which takes place in Barcelona from Feb. 26 to March 1. It’s also possible that Samsung could hold its own “Unpacked” event to unveil the phone, which was what the company did for the Galaxy S8 earlier this year.

As for the actual release date of the Galaxy S9, that is still up in the air. Samsung could follow its 2017 timeline and open pre-orders by the end of March and make the phone widely available a few weeks into April. Samsung could also change it up and surprise its fans by releasing the S9 earlier than expected, but that just seems like wishful thinking at this point.
