Actor Anthony Geary made his “General Hospital” debut as Luke Spencer in 1978. On Monday's episode, his character was killed off of the popular ABC soap opera.

The big reveal came during a scene in which Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliott) told Luke’s ex-wife Laura Collins (Genie Francis) that Luke died in a cable car accident in Austria.

However, when his sister Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) was informed of his death, she expressed doubts about whether the incident was truly an accident.

At one point during the episode, it appeared to hint that Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy) may have been behind Luke’s death.

Even though Geary retired from his role as Luke in 2015, he became a fan favorite throughout his time on the show due to his character’s onscreen romance with Laura.

The wedding of the popular couple, known as "Luke and Laura," drew in about 30 million viewers and became the highest-rated episode in soap opera history.

The announcement of Geary’s departure from "GH" comes as a former cast member made her return to the soap opera.

Kristina Wagner reprised her role as Felicia Scorpio-Jones during the last week of December to support her daughter, Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms). While most of Port Charles believes Maxie’s baby is missing, viewers are aware she has been hiding her daughter.

After learning about Peter’s (Wes Ramsey) dark side, Maxie was determined to keep him out of their daughter’s life. To accomplish her goal, she gave her baby to Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton), who was faking her pregnancy to get her family’s company back from Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart).

Wagner last appeared on “GH” in May 2020 to attend the memorial service of Sean Donely (John Reilly).

“General Hospital” airs weekdays at 3 p.m. ET on ABC.
