A woman who was attempting to flee after a hit-and-run accident has died after her car hit a utility pole.

The incident took place at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday on Briarcliff Road near Lakeside High School in DeKlab County, Michaela Vincent, DeKalb police spokesperson, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Authorities said the woman, whose name was not revealed, swerved into another vehicle "without stopping." As she was trying to escape the scene, her car crashed against a utility pole, causing her to suffer fatal injuries.

The other driver only got minor injuries, Vincent to the outlet.

Doug Turnbull, a journalist who works with the outlet, shared visuals from the crash scene via Twitter. In the images, fire officials and police officers could be seen working to remove the vehicle from the intersection of Briarcliff and Oak Grove roads.

"Wrecker leaving scene after vehicle flipped on Briarcliff in front of Lakeside High in DeKalb. Road shut down. Investigation near the exit-driveway at top level of school. Take LaVista," Turnbull noted in his tweet.

Briarcliff Road was temporarily closed as the car wreck was being investigated, WSB 24-hour Traffic Center announced as per the outlet.

DeKlab officials did not reveal if anyone from the school was involved in the incident. The police did not release any further details about it, either. The investigation is ongoing.

In a similar incident in May, a burglar ended up killing a man and the dog he was walking while fleeing the police in California. The suspect, Jyvante West, led the cops on a car chase after police tried to take him into custody for stealing from a licensed "marijuana-related business." The victim, identified as Jose Hernandez, was sent 100 feet into the air after West's vehicle hit him. Authorities suspect West was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. He was arrested on multiple charges, including suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run resulting in death and driving under the influence of drugs causing injury.
