Giuliana Rancic is apparently already well enough to be cracking jokes, following a successful double mastectomy for her breast cancer on Wednesday night.

G is doing really well . . . her surgery lasted for about four hours and the doctors were very pleased with the result, her husband Bill Rancic told E! News on Thrusday.

She had a little bit of pain through the night but is feeling much better this morning and was cracking jokes, he added.

The 37-year-old longtime E! News host, who also had reconstructive surgery, had a few words for her supporters.

I want to thank all the viewers and fans for their support and prayers . . . the tweets and notes have not gone unnoticed. I am very grateful, she told E!

Rancic first shared news of her cancer on The Today Show in October, where she revealed that the diagnosis came through a routine mammogram that was ordered by her fertility doctor.

Through my attempt to get pregnant for the third time through IVF, we sadly found out that I have early stages of breast cancer. And it's been a shock, she told Today Show host Ann Curry at the time.

That same week, Rancic went through a double lumpectomy, which was followed by six intense weeks of radiation. Near the end of her radiation period, Rancic and her husband returned to Today and announced that she would be going through with a double mastectomy.

For me, it was important to get the cancer out . . . that's what I wanted to do, just to get it out, Rancic said.

At the end, to be honest, all it came town to was just choosing to live, and not looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life, she added.

Throughout her breast cancer ordeal, Rancic has been communicating with her friends and fans via Twitter, occasionally posting inspirational quotes about healthy living and survival.

You can't control what life hands you but you can control your attitude towards life. #mymantra, Rancic wrote on Sunday, days before her mastectomy.

Rancic is expected to return to E! in two weeks.
