General Motors is recalling 10,179 of its 2011 Buick LaCrosse sedans and Cadillac SRX crossovers due to a software glitch that could cause the defrosters to stop working.

According to a National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration bulletin, the ECC software may disable a driver's ability to adjust the settings on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system. Without such control, drivers may not be able to defog or defrost the vehicles' windshields. This potential failure of the LaCrosse's and SRX's windshield defrosting and defogging system may hamper the driver's view and lead to a collision.

Notification for owners of the affected vehicles is slated to begin this month. Dealers are expected to reprogram the module free of charge.

For more information, Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac SRX owners may call the manufacturers (Buick: 1-866-608-8080, Cadillac: 1-866-982-2339) or visit General Motor's website for owners.
