Before “Gotham” Season 2 ended, fans were introduced to the mysterious Court of Owls which seems to run Gotham City behind the scenes.

Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) has learned that the Court of Owls, a secret society of Gotham's oldest families, is actually the one funding the crazy experiments being carried out by Hugo Strange (B.D. Wong) at Indian Hill.

When Season 3 returns, Bruce will finally come face-to-face with the people behind the Court of Owls, and he will try to eliminate them for good.

In a “Gotham” Season 3 featurette, Bruce was seen talking to Selina Kyle (Carmen Bicondova) and warning her against the Court of Owls because “these people are powerful.”

He told her he “needed time to research them,” and their friendship might put her at risk. But Selina did not seem to be worried and even snapped at Bruce.

“Once he came back, he knew that he had to deal with them,” Mazouz said. “He decides that he is going to bring them down and bring them to justice.”

Bruce’s concern for Selina might not just be because of their friendship. Mazouz earlier told Comic Book that Bruce will take his relationship with Selina to the next level this coming season. “Now, at this point, he doesn’t really need her anymore [for that], but he’s still friends with her. So the question is why? The answer is that they have this connection, and this connection will only grow bigger. That connection will lead Bruce to be determined to take things to the next level,” he said.

Bruce and Selina’s relationship will not be the only one to blossom next season. Despite botching up his relationship with Dr. Lee Thompkins (Morena Baccarin), Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) has managed to find someone else to date.

“There’s a new love interest for me in Valerie Vale – I think I can say that that’s a love interest. I don’t think it’s much of a surprise. It’s professional, and then not. And [Lee] has a new man as well. So we get to have fun with the kind of love triangle aspect,” McKenzie told Comic Book Resources.

“Gotham” will return on Monday, Sept. 19 at 8 p.m. on Fox.
