"I just wanted to take this unique opportunity to share my gratitude to Gloria, my wonderful wife and my rock for over 53 years, my family, friends, and fans," the statement quoted Thomas as saying. "I'm so blessed to have had the opportunity to record and perform beautiful songs in pop, country, and gospel music, and to share those wonderful songs and memories around the world with millions of you."

"I ask all of you for your prayers during this time and that my music can live on with you," the message of the "Hooked on a Feeling" singer concluded. He shares three daughters, Paige, Nora and Erin with his wife Gloria Thomas.

The singer is popularly known for his Oscar-winning hit "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" from the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," which released in 1969, according to Deadline. Penned by Hal David and Burt Bacharach, the single topped Billboard charts in 1970 for four weeks. His portfolio also consists of the greatest hits like "I Just Can't Help Believing," "Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" and "Everybody’s Out of Town."

Fans have expressed their support for Thomas by writing heartfelt messages in response to the announcement. One of them wrote, "So very sad to see this Hope you will have a complete recovery. Would like to see you again. Sending love & hugs. And prayers. Love you & miss you."

Another fan said, "Prayers for you BJ - praying for your full recovery. Since the late 60s, I have been a big fan of your music. You are a big part of the best songs ever created that will live on forever..."

"BJ, I sure hate to hear this news and will be praying for you and your family during this difficult time. Once you beat this I’ll look forward to hearing the best voice in the business in person again. Stay strong," another user commented.

The singer has an upcoming tour that is scheduled for April 17 in Everett, Washington, reported People.
