  • "GTA 5" set its first big player record this year after the launch of the "Tuners" update
  • The "Los Santos Tuners" update adds tons of content and changes to the game
  • The update focuses on vehicle customization and racing

The release of the “Los Santos Tuners” DLC for “GTA 5” caused a significant spike in total player counts across all platforms, marking this month as the game’s latest success in terms of overall patronage from fans.

“GTA 5’s” concurrent player count over the past 30 days reached 218,000 on Steam alone, according to SteamCharts. This new tally slightly falls behind on the game’s last record player peak of 256,000 back in December 2020 when the Cayo Perico heist was released.

Meanwhile, the game’s total player population over the same timespan across all platforms reached 1.1 million based on the stat-tracking site.

Rockstar Games deposited $250,000 in-game money to every active player to celebrate this milestone for the 8-year-old game.

The “Los Santos Tuners” update introduced a slew of new content and in-game activities that mostly revolved around the LS Car Meet, a new club for players to show off their custom cars in. Most of the new features added by this update are focused around vehicles, like the new Test Track that’s designed for testing custom vehicle builds and the new Auto Shop property.

Players who join the LS Car Meet will also have access to six new races, a mod shop where players can customize their vehicles in real-time and weekly challenges for a shot at winning a random featured vehicle. Other member benefits include new clothes, race modes, liveries and the new robbery-style Contract jobs.

Perhaps the biggest additions to the game are the 10 new cars that players can have access to. These new vehicles are highly customizable, so players can fine-tune both the cars’ performance and looks however they want.

The “Tuners” update adds the following to the game:

  • Obey Tailgater S
  • Annis Euros
  • Dinka RT3000
  • Annis ZR350
  • Vulcar Warrener HKR
  • Karin Calico GTF
  • Annis Remus
  • Dinka Jester RR
  • Karin Futo GTX
  • Vapid Dominator GTT

More cars will be added to the game in the coming weeks, according to Rockstar.

The “Los Santos Tuners” update was well-received by fans, mostly due to the slew of new content and quality-of-life changes that were made to the game that catered to a very specific part of “GTA 5’s” core audience.
