2019 has passed and 2020 is in, which means players and fans alike are closer than ever to seeing the next-generation gaming consoles from Sony and Microsoft released to the public. Those systems are still nearly a year away though – which means players can choose to enjoy these up and coming titles for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Here's a quick look at some of the greatest and most-anticipated titles set to arrive to current-gen consoles this year, as per Business Insider:

PlayStation exclusives

  • “Final Fantasy VII Remake”

This remake of the 1997 classic title puts old and new players in the shoes of Cloud Strife, Barret Wallace, Aerith Gainsborough and Tifa Lockhart as they fight against the corrupt Shinra electric power company in Midgar. This isn't the turn-based role-playing game it was once, though. It's an RPG with a heavy focus on action.

Final Fantasy VII Remake” releases March 3 for the PS4.

  • “The Last Of Us Part II”

Fans who loved Naughty Dog's highly-acclaimed title “The Last Of Us” will be able to play its sequel, “The Last of Us Part II,” this year. This follow-up focuses heavily on Ellie, who's now older and is out for revenge. Players should expect to see Joel in this installment.

The Last Of Us Part II” releases May 29 for the PS4.

  • “Ghost of Tsushima”

This third-person action game, set in feudal-era Japan, comes from Sucker Punch, the maker of the popular game “InFamous.” Players will take on the role of the last surviving samurai as he embarks on a quest to fight for the freedom of the Land of the Rising Sun from the Mongol Empire.

“Ghost of Tsushima” releases Summer this year for the PS4.

Multi-platform

  • “Watch Dogs Legion”

From the makers of “Assassin's Creed” and “Splinter Cell” comes “Watch Dogs Legion,” the latest entry in the “Watch Dogs” franchise. In this installment, players will take on the role of a legion of characters, each with their unique skills.

“Watch Dogs Legion” releases March 6 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.

  • “DOOM Eternal”

This reboot of the classic “DOOM” will have players slaying demons and hellish forces as the Marine. Fans can expect to experience hardcore shooting and running action that only comes from the original.

  • “Resident Evil 3 Remake”

Following shortly after the success of “Resident Evil 2 Remake,” this remake of the 1999 classic survival-horror title puts players in the shoes of STARS member Jill Valentine as she fights against the undead and the notoriously terrifying Nemesis while making her way through Raccoon City.
