Known for such talented portrayals as Han Solo in “Star Wars” and Rick Deckard in “Blade Runner,” Harrison Ford’s Hollywood career tends to revolve around high-profile and large-budgeted films. Yet, that will now seemingly all change as Ford ascends to the lead role in Annapurna’s “The Staircase.”

Ford’s TV series was first revealed by Variety, which detailed how Annapurna is currently in talks with a number of different streaming sites and network providers. Ford will serve not only as a lead on the show but also as an executive producer, along with the show’s writer, Antonio Campos, and Annapurna TV producing.

“The Staircase” murders revolve around a real-world case in North Carolina involving the 2001 death of Kathleen Peterson supposedly by the hands of her husband, Mike Peterson. The trial would eventually become one of the longest-running criminal cases in the state's history, as yet another body of a friend of the couple was exhumed in Germany after it was revealed she had suffered a similar fatal circumstance as Kathleen. Said victim’s children were even in the custody of the Petersons following her demise.

The docuseries has been adapted on numerous occasions, specifically 2012’s acclaimed “The Staircase: The Last Chance.” First released in 2004, “The Staircase” series would eventually be acquired by Netflix for 13 episodes in 2018. This followed with years of new information added by its creator, Jean-Xavier de Lestrade.

“The Staircase” TV show writer Campos may have a new star-studded feature on the way, called “The Devil All The Time,” but he isn’t new to television. Having penned the likes of “The Sinner,” a crime anthology series for USA Network, in addition to directing an episode of Netflix’s “The Punisher,” his talents in bringing crime-riddled stories to the small screen speak for themselves.

Ford isn’t new to TV either, as evidenced by his roles in “The F.B.I.,” “Gunsmoke,” and “The Virginian,” which were all filmed in the early years of his career. “The Staircase,” however, marks his first television role in over 20 years.
