Stephen Fry, who is considered to be one of the greatest performers of all time, has revealed that he wanted to play the role of James Bond when he was younger. The iconic character created by Ian Fleming has been portrayed by actors like Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.

As quoted by the Daily Mail's Sebastian Shakespeare column, the 62-year-old star described the legendary fictional character as “sexist” and “cruel.” However, he grew up loving the character and would have loved to play the spy on the big screen. Fry further stated that he was a lover of all the things that Bond did in the movies.

“Brutal, snobbish, sexist, and cruel as he could be, I was a great lover of all things, James Bond, when I was a youth. I do not mind admitting, shallow and silly as it sounds, that I wanted to BE Bond,” Fry said.

But he soon realized that he was never meant to be Bond and accepted that he would have looked much better as a sidekick or a villain.

“As for my coming close to Bond, well, it did not take me long to realize with a sigh of acceptance that I was suited by nature to be a Blofeld or perhaps a Goldfinger or a Drax - even a Miss Moneypenny or a Q - but never a Bond,” Fry said.

Although the “Sherlock Holmes” star did not get a chance to play Bond during his illustrious career, Fry has given many amazing performances in many other movies that he has been a part of. “Wilde,” “V For Vendetta,” “Alice In Wonderland,” “The Hobbit: Desolation Of Smaug” are some of the movies that he did.

Fry was nominated for one Golden Globe in Best Actor category for the movie “Wilde.” He has also received seven BAFTA nominations.

In related news, Craig will be donning the iconic suit for the last time in the upcoming movie “No Time To Die.” The movie was scheduled to hit the theaters in April 2020, but the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic forced the makers to move its release date. The 25th film in the Bond franchise will now be releasing on Nov. 25 in the U.S.

The cast of “No Time To Die” also includes Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Lea Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Jeffrey Wright, as well as franchise newcomers Rami Malek, Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch, David Dencik, Billy Magnussen and Dali Benssalah.
