A homeowner was in for a "creepy" surprise when he decided to remove a few bricks from his dining hall wall. He stumbled upon a secret room hidden behind the wall, that too five years after moving into the house.

The homeowner shared a video on Reddit last month, giving a glimpse of the newly-discovered secret chamber behind a faux brick wall in his dining room. The video starts with the man removing a few bricks from the wall and exposing a door handle. Once he twists the handle, the door opens to what looks like a small storage unit.

"Been living in this house for 5 years, never noticed there was a secret door leading to a little storage cubby behind the dining room finish," the homeowner, who goes by the Reddit handle Stickz587, wrote in the caption.

A cubby is an enclosed space typically allotted to children for playing or to hoard small items.

It was not known where the incident happened.

The video has since garnered hundreds of views, with some commenting that the room scared the wits out of them.

"If movies have taught me anything, it's that you definitely just released a demon into your home," one user joked. “Huh, that's kind of creepy actually," wrote another.

Some users appeared to be unimpressed by the small space provided in the room. "Fun idea but useless. The door swinging in takes up the whole room," one user said, while another wrote, "Yeah that’s a major design flaw to be fair!"

Others had some funny takes on the discovery. "If you're using it to hide illegal guns, drugs, stolen items, etc then it’s perfect," one comment read. "Please tel me there was either treasure or a body in there! Or better still you have left some treasure or a body in there for the next guy!!!" read another.

In a separate incident in May, a man in England found a secret room under his house which presumably dated back 100 years. He noticed a patch in the wall, which was different in appearance than the rest. He created two holes in the wall and found a large opening behind it, which led him to the 16 feet deep, approximately 10 feet tall and 10 feet wide secret room.
