Almost two years after Google cut Huawei and its sub-brand Honor from some updates to the Android operating system, the latter has now joined hands with the search engine giant again. Honor has formally announced that it will launch its next line of devices with pre-installed Google applications.

Honor lost its access to the Android license, along with Huawei, in 2019, Gizmochina reported. On May 21, the Honor Germany Twitter account posted the update in German, while replying to a customer who asked if the Honor 50 series will finally launch with Google Mobile Services. Reports suggest that as the update talks about the Honor 50 are in German, the upcoming devices will mostly launch in Germany.

Google revoked Huawei’s Android license in May 2019 after it was placed on US Commerce Department’s entity blacklist. Honor, a sub-brand of Huawei, also suffered the revocation and released the Honor 10X Max, Honor 9S and Honor 10X Lite without the pre-installed Google Apps.

Huawei was also banned from doing any business with Qualcomm, a move that affected the Chinese tech giant’s sub-brand pretty badly.

In 2020, Huawei sold Honor to Zhixin New Information Technology Co. Ltd. The company is a consortium formed by agents and dealers of the Honor brand and Shenzhen Smart City Development Group Co. Ltd acquired Honor.

After the transfer of ownership, Honor communicated and renegotiated with companies that implemented a ban against it during Huawei’s acquisition. Among the companies that reopened business with Honor is Google for mobile services sold outside China and Qualcomm for chipsets.

On May 19, a Twitter update from Qualcomm confirmed that Honor’s effort to reach out to them was successful. A part of the update said a new collaboration and friend will be announced. The Honor official Twitter account retweeted the post.

Gizmochina later reported that the upcoming Honor 50 series will be powered by Snapdragon 778G chipset.

Honor is yet to release a rollout date for the Honor 50 series. Reports claimed that the upcoming launch will come with an AMOLED 120HZ display, triple rear and dual selfie cameras.

Honor followers may also expect the Honor 50 series to come with Magic UI similar to its predecessors yet with added exclusive features, XDA Developers reported.
